How do you perceive fear, and is it a bad thing per se?

This post wasn’t made to terrify you by any means!

Strong emotions are strong triggers,

Are you ever scared?

Have you been scared before?

FEAR, what exactly is it?

First of all, FEAR is a primitive emotion which is naturally powerful. It involves a universal biochemical response as well as a high individual emotional response.

The amygdala is a part within your brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli. Detecting threat, and activation of appropriate fear-related behaviors in response to threatening or dangerous stimuli.

The emotion alerts us to the presence of danger or the threat of harm, whether that danger is a real physical threat or imagined psychological danger.

Therefore it can also be the symptom of some mental health conditions, including panic or social anxiety disorders. Additionally you could include phobias and Post-traumatic stress disorders to the list!

The illusion of control drives a feeling of safety and certainty. The fact that a car seems more reliable than a plane.. The true driving factor behind this is FEAR.

“The imminent possibility of death drives FEAR”

You tend to overestimate the risk of being killed by a terrorist attack in the most extreme way. And on the other hand you heavily underestimate the risk of dying because of using a phone while driving.

For instance, after 9/11 many more people died in car accidents than in terrorist attacks because, out of FEAR of an attack, they took the car instead of the plane.

Just understand that before this happens, the chances to die in an airplane accident were minor in comparement of having a car crash. Because of the safety precautions taken after, chances to encounter another toerist attack on an airplane were near non-existing.

This same fundamental bias is being abused amongst the media, and their voters. Governments follow the same logic and make laws and spend billions to fight the rarest of life…
